I have been reading a book recently "They Speak With Other Tongues" by John Sherrill and something I read got me to thinking. I can't count how many times on the forum and others that I used to read all the time would do everything to discount other denominations receiving the HG by saying 'they didn't receive the REAL HG' or something along those lines. I am sure you have heard it too.

In the book it recounts about Parham and other stories of the 'Firsts' of americans to receive the HG. It recounted Azusa and other "outpourings". So I got to thinking how we in the UPC and other similar ORGS will claim those outpourings as valid and we hold those close to our hearts as 'our history'.

How and why is it that we claim and hold these, but now when other on TV or other denominations receive the same HG do we discount it? I think that it is because it is a defensive thing. I think that if people acknowledged that it is infact THE SAME HG, because there is only 1 HG, it might cause questions. Questions like "why is God allowing this when WE are suppose to be THE church?" I think that God is still moving in the UPC, but also moving in other Denominations as well. I would say that it is better to follow the cloud of anointing as He moves and not just be static to a movement because that is what daddy and mommy was.
