I remember that Oden made a fan out of John Piper when he took on Greg Boyd and fellow Methodist Clark Pinnock some years back on the "Process Theology" debate that Pinnock had started.
I was still full time in the ministry when Pinnock came out with the "Openess of God." The idea that some of the future is unknown to God because of our free will. This does iron out some apparent conundrums like
1 Samuel 15:29-35, but it is unsatisfying for Evangelicals for obvious reasons.
I'd be truly interested in Oden's findings and his commentary on the Patristic literature concerning Genesis. Oden's been known to be growing ever more "conservative." Plus, he always comes across as a nice man.
