Elder James N Burkhart- Ohio 2018

TROY, OH — Elder James Nelson Burkhart, age 90 of Troy, Ohio passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton Saturday, April 28, 2018.
Born February 27, 1928 in Indianapolis, IN to James Nelson and Louise E. (Bradley) Burkhart.
A graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, IN; Indianapolis Electronic School; University of Oklahoma; and many other courses in regards to his professional career.
Jim proudly served in the US Army Signal Corp in Korea during policing of that country in 1946-1947.
Jim was a retired Electrical Engineer from DESC and over the years had worked for Lake Central Airlines as a radio technician and was transferred to Columbus, OH in 1953. FAA electronic technician transferred to Dayton in 1958 and employed at DESC from 1962 until his retirement in 1985 as supervisor electronic engineer.
Served as chairman for ASTM meetings and at that time was listed in "Who's Who in American Frontiers of Science and Technology". Was a marketing manager for Capfilm Lee, MA and did consulting work for Sprague Electric, Sanford, ME. A member of Tree of Life Ministries, Fairborn, OH where he served as Elder.
Helped to found Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Tipp City, OH where he served as Elder, teacher, and pastor from March 1967 – March 2006. Jim was responsible for the erection of the church building, fellowship hall, two garages and the new parsonage. He was a superb and thorough bible teacher; a kind, gentle and considerate shepherd to the flock God entrusted him for those 39 years.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Lloyd Burkhart and brother-in-law Larry Barnett. Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years Alma J. (Long) Burkhart whom he married on April 10, 1955. Son David E. (Diane) Burkhart, Troy, OH. Brother Gerald L. (Fayrene) Burkhart, Greenwood, IN; sister Sue Ann Barnett, Beach Grove, IN; sister-in-law Nancy Burkhart, FL. Grandchildren Kelli (John) Barnes and David Andrew (Holly) Burkhart. Great grandchildren Charlotte and Luke Barnes.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved music and played several instruments, especially the piano and organ. He also loved to fly his private planes.
Private funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371. Pastor Eric Meade officiating with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City. Public visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday May 1st at Frings and Bayliff.
