Re: Gulf of Persia Incident?

It will be interesting to watch this develop. Trump is not an interventionist and would rather avoid conflict and negotiate. Bolton is one of the few remaining high-profile war hawks who have been itching to start another war.

"""In a highly unusual move, national security adviser John Bolton convened a meeting at CIA headquarters last week with the Trump administration's top intelligence, diplomatic and military advisers to discuss Iran,"""

"""The meeting was held at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 29, and included CIA Director Gina Haspel, Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joe Dunford, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats"""

"""National security meetings are typically held in the White House Situation Room."""

"""The U.S. has a very specific intelligence gathering capability on Iran that is only able to be reviewed at CIA headquarters, two former officials said."""

"""Vice President Dick Cheney frequently traveled to CIA to grill analysts about intelligence""" relating to Iraq's alleged WMDs.

"""Days after it took place, Bolton, citing indications of an increased threat from Iran, announced the deployment of a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber squadron to the Persian Gulf."""

Bolton, the National Security Advisor, organized a meeting at the CIA HQ April 29th and six days later announces that a carrier strike group was being deployed to the gulf region.

The POTUS yesterday had this to say about Bolton: ""“John’s very good. He has strong views on things which is OK. I’m the one who tempers him, which is OK. I have John Bolton and I have people who are a little more dovish than him,” said Trump.""

Trump says HE'S the one who tempers Bolton. Hilarious.

"""U.S. President Donald Trump, facing the possibility of military confrontations with both Iran and Venezuela, said on Thursday that he sometimes serves as a counterbalance to his hard-charging national security adviser, John Bolton."""

"""The Washington Post reported on Thursday that Trump has privately complained that Bolton is pushing an interventionist stance at odds with his view that the United States should stay out of foreign quagmires."""

Sounds like Trump/Bolton are playing "Good Cop/Bad Cop"

Trump yesterday: ""Asked on Thursday about Iran, President Donald Trump said: "They're in bad shape right now. I look forward to the day where we can actually help them. We're not looking to hurt Iran. I want them to be strong and great and have a great economy."

"But they should call, and if they do, we're open to talk to them.""
