However, if the 50th day is when the cloud covered the mountain after the the people entered into covenant and had the blood sprinkled on them and the book of law, there was an additional 6 days the cloud stayed on the mountain and Moses left for 40 days and nights before any 3000 were killed.
Exodus 24:15-18 KJV And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. (16) And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. (17) And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. (18) And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.
Moses is up there for the entire chapters 25 through 31.

Then we read at the end of the 40 days when Moses returns:
Exodus 32:1 KJV And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Exodus 32:7 KJV And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

And of course the 3000 died.
Yes, the comparison is the Law worketh wrath, but the Promise/Grace gives life.....

6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
