Re: Pastoral Authority

Beside the inherited authority of the preached Word of God, pastors don’t have authority on people personal business as a father has on a child but they do have authority of how the assembly they are overseeing should run, and on the application of the Word of God on certain issues unique to the situation and time. The pastor should be in a team of elders with the guidance of the Spirit to exercise such authority as well.

For instance, a team of elders pray and examine the Word and come to an official position to teach that smoking is a sin even though is not in the Bible because of this and that reason and reference.
They also, for instance, examine a case and decide to remove the role of deacon from somebody that is not walking in Christ accordingly.

This is all in the Word of God (see the epistles to Timothy and the first council in Jerusalem in Acts)
