Yep, talked to Wink for the very first time when he was with the McGruders in Dyersberg TN doing a concert years ago.

Such a nice man!

And very helpful with the knowledge of the guitar too.

Re: Pentecostal guitar players

Is this about pentecostals who play the guitar or about people who play pentecostal guitars? Never heard of a pentecostal guitar before. =)

Well actually I have been thinking if anybody that has a great talent and dedicates it to God, that person deserves some recognition for his talent. I think Pentecostals are as good as anybody when it comes to singing or playing an instrument, but in the past few years it seems to me that really great musicians are hard to find. I know there are some, I just don't know where they are hiding.

Re: Pentecostal guitar players

It DOES seem that in the 80's we had not only great musicians like Larry Carter coming out in the UPC, but also Geron Davis who was great on a Keyboard and Lanny Wolfe Before that.

Lanny and Geron not only could play, but could WRITE songs that became wildly popular outside pentecostal ranks and even win numerous dove awards for it.

We still have Mark Condon, but I in all honesty could NOT equate his songwriting ability with Lanny's or Geron's. He is great in his own respect, but I have not seen him make inroads like Lanny or Geron did.

So I would have to agree that the "talent pool" of playing and songwriting has shrunk somewhat. I also have not seen many in pentecost, not just the UPC that could take their place.

Re: Pentecostal guitar players

The other night, I decided to finally take pictures of all my guitars and write down the serial numbers of all my musical stuff and put it in a fireproof safe for insurance purposes....I looked around after I took the pics and WOW! Did not realize I had all that stuff! LOL!

More pics of my stuff here:

http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d148/webe123/

Here is a family shot of my stuff....sorry for the poor photography. I just did the best I could in my room and I have low wattage energy saving lighting, so that did not help much. But here my collection is anyway.

I know it is kind of hard to see what I have so I will give you a list. All the guitars are stock.
From left to right:
1. Far left out front: 2001 PRS Mcarty Soapbar all mahagony.

2. Behind PRS Mcarty: 2004 Fender highway one texas telecaster.

3. Beside PRS Mcarty 2007 PRS Modern Eagle 1 Private Stock.

4. Behind PRS Modern Eagle 1: 2007 Fender 1957 re-issue stratocaster.

5. Beside PRS Modern Eagle 1: 2004 Gibson ES-333.

6. Behind Gibson ES 333: (hard to see) 1999 Gibson Les Paul Special II SL.

7. Beside Gibson ES 333: Fender Squire standard stratocaster.(I use this for practice at home and to keep as a beater guitar to take on trips.)

8. Behind Fender Squire strat: 2008 Godin ACS SA classical guitar with 13 pin pickup. (I use this for my main MIDI guitar)

9. Beside Godin ACS SA: 2001 Taylor 312 CE with fishman electronics.(By the way, I just ordered a LR Baggs M1A in soundhole pickup for it, because I hate the fishman electronics, though I love the guitars sound by itself! I also have a LR Baggs Parai DI and visual sound liquid chorus and echo for acoustic guitar effects)

10. Beside Taylor 312 CE: Ventura 12 string accoustic guitar. (made by takamanie in the 1970's? )( I bought this for about a hundred bucks on ebay, but it does get a great sound when you put on new strings and let them sit for awhile and then tune it up! The wood has really aged good on this one.)

My main amp, that you cannot see very well, is a Mesa Boogie Lonestar (all tube amp) 2x12 (50/100 watt model with blue wrap)( I use a boom stand and Shure SM 57 mic to mic it into the PA system)

I also have a Vox VR-15 practice amp that is a tube/ solid state hybrid amp. Sounds pretty decent for a small practice amp.

For my wah, I use a Vox V847 Wah that has been modded by a place called chucks tone garage on ebay a little while back to include a plug in for a power supply.

I have a audio technica wireless VHF guitar system I use at times. It is not the greatest, but it gets the job done within about 75 feet or less.

My electric guitar effects unit is a TC Electronic Nova system with a G switch pedal. GREAT EFFECTS UNIT...and VERY useable sounds! Not a bunch of "space junk" effects either! Great effects I can easily use in church!

I also have a LR Baggs M1A pickup, a LR Baggs Para DI for EQ and a visual sound liquid chorus and echo pedal for acoustic guitar effects. Decent for a acoustic guitar effects unit.

I recently purchased a earnie ball volume pedal for my volume swells on guitar.

I also have a Line 6 POD 2.0 and floorboard that I use to take over to a friends house for music practice. I also have a galaxy audio hot spot monitor on a stand,

I used to use this at another church I went to in another state but since I moved, the new church I will be playing at uses the Aviom headphone system for monitors for the musicians...MUCH BETTER! Less stage noise and you can have the mix YOU want with the A 16 II unit, Because you can mix in all the stuff on the stage yourself and hear your mix in the headphones...leaving the sound guy to run the house speakers.

I also purchased an Akai DPS 12 digital recorder for about 91 bucks on ebay that had its own hard drive inside. And then I got a CD Burner and a 8 gig external hard drive I bought for it from a friend. That is what will I do most of my recording for my guitars on.

On the MIDI guitar side....I use an axon AX 100 Mark II (MIDI guitar converter) hooked up to a Yamaha Motif XS (keyboard rackmount module) in a two space gator case on a stand made basically for keyboards with a box I made to bring it up to eye level when I stand up! I use the Godin ACS SA classical guitar with 13 pin input with this unit going clean through my amp. (This will be used for strings, flutes, sax sounds, etc. or any other sound a keyboard can make,I can make.... because I have the MIDI guitar converter going through the keyboard module....so it is basically a keyboard module with a converter to convert the signal to guitar)

The Yamaha Motif XS has so many sounds, I am still trying to figure out what I will need before I play for the first time at the new church I will be attending. But it does have excellent sounds on it.

That is about it other than stands and cords.

Obviously I do NOT use all this on stage at church! But I DO have about four guitars on stage with me, The Taylor, two electrics (usually the modern eagle and fender strat, but it varies according to what we might be playing, )(I think of guitars as TOOLS and try to use the best one to get the job done) and then I have my MIDI classical guitar Godin which I can blend MIDI sounds such as a flute and have a classical guitar sound at the same time for example...this goes GREAT with very slow worship music!

I have to say that I have been blessed and try to use this for Gods purpose.I never have played in clubs and never will. I have always played guitar in church when I started 28 years ago and will always play ONLY in church.
