Happens more than you know.........some of my best "knock down drag out" services have been at funerals.

We were strictly trained at IBC never to do evangelism at funerals. The funerals are not for the church. They are for the grieving family. It easily makes enemies of the cross when they feel you are manipulating the environment to get them into Grandma's church.

IBC (of which I am alumni) taught WRONG!
I own our funeral home..... www.christensenfuneralhome.com
I was director and asst in that funeral...
Each funeral is held differently.
IF you knew Dr. Bauer.. I did it EXACTLY as he would have wanted it.

I remember Bro. Marler telling us there were too many variables and it could easily be ministry suicide.

What years were you? I was 97-2000

What is ministry suicide? 11 apostles were suicide or died as faithfull saints?

I was at a funeral of a saint that had hundreds of worldly friends. In fact i knew a lot of them. I would even estimate 100 millionaires there. Since I knew lots of them in business, I also know the music and worship part of the music was incredibly powerfull conviction in the room. Even a lot of bar owners. Yes it is for the family. Yes and King david knew the soothing of music when he played his harp.

What I am getting at.. is that funerals are tricky. They can easily turn people against the Christian message if they feel they are getting manipulated by the preacher to get right or die in hell. Funerals are a very emotional time and should be focused on giving comfort to the family... not to rolling the dice on a bellywhopper of a alter call. People can really get to hate a church if they feel manipulated at a vulnerable time.

I have been at a few funerals the past years where the plan of salvation was discussed. No altar call. One funeral was at the grave because a few folks wanted to avoid a church service. The preacher had never met the immediate family ever before. I spoke with him a while and complimented him. It is the only message a few people will ever hear. maybe for years.

At my grandfathers funeral we forevermore had some church. Shouting, dancing, singing, praising...

That's the way it oughta be.
