Another "Apostolic Identity" in March 2010 PH.
My opinion:
I don't follow Pentecostal politics too closely, even if they are interesting. But again this month the Pentecostal Herald hosts another article on "Apostolic Identity".
It seems that big brother is pushing a particular agenda. I've been to 1 UPCI youth rally this year, the subject was holiness, reports from our Youth District Leader is that all 3 or 4 Youth Rallies he's attended this year have been about Holiness.
Where does one divert the majority his attention: the major issue!
You don't buy a new roof if your basement is flooding. It seems to me (an outsider from Michigan) that the UPCi know's it's losing its stronghold on the "Holiness Look" and diverting its attention on not losing its foothold, rather than preaching Jesus.

Sad isn't it? Sacrificing Jesus for a "look!"
When the Son of Man returns, will he find faith on the earth?

No!
Nada!
None!
Zero!
I was thinkin' bout this a short awhile ago.......
When Jesus, in speaking about the spiritual state of the society of man which would be resident upon the earth preceding His return, He described it as a time such as it has never been since the beginning of the world. Considering that we find it written in Genesis the thoughts of men during the period immediately preceding the flood were "evil continually," and that the era during which He would return would exceed Noah's days before the utter devastation of the flood came, then it could only mean that God will be unable to find even ONE righteous man upon the earth when the Son of man comes again! That is awesome!!!
This time in which we live while God has patiently extended His great salvation to all that would take heed to and obey His commandments, will soon expire. His ark - the Church - is almost complete. Its high time to make our calling and election sure!

What would you say was the focus of this new AI agenda piece?

Understanding our Identity
"Some think we maintain doctrinal beliefs while abandoning a separated life, but both are essential to apostolic identity."
The Apostolic Message:
The doctrine of one true God
The doctrine of Jesus Christ who was God manifest in the flesh
Doctrine of salvation: Acts 2:38 with tongues
Doctrine of holiness and Christian living "we must separate ourselves from sin and worldly values and dedicate ourselves to God and His will. It is characterized by prayer, fellowship, giving, joyful worship, miraculous gifts of the Spirit and evangelism"
The doctrine of eternal judgement.
"The essence of apostolic identity is to believe, proclaim, and obey these teachings. In doing so, we will be saved and our churches will have revival"

Re: Another "Apostolic Identity" in March 2010 PH.
That's the Apostolic Message ... as worded?
I find the Acts 2:38 with tongues statement to be interesting ... in taking a pulse of some young ministers ... there are growing numbers who believe that water baptism is essential but tongues are not necessarily the universal sign of the HGB.
Although technically, they do acknowledge it is evidence.
Also the statement does not require an interpretation on the New Birth.
Also, kudos for not listing a clothesline list with holiness but rather characteristcs of a sanctified believer:
Quote:

|
Is there a clothesline or hair statement in the article Justin?
Who is the author?
If this is the essence of AI then we are looking at the PCI manual.
If this is the jist of the AI statement ... some will be disappointed.

Does it say that these statements are ex-cathedra from another Bernard piece?

There is no indication of it on the article... I checked the first few pages to see if there was a "reference" or "bibliography" section... nothing.
