The Barren Womb?
Before scientific discovery or the skill to test the male ability to produce children, it seems that the female was considered to have a "Barren Womb", placing blame on the woman, not the man.
Today, we can find who is most likely responsible for inability in the reproductive process.
I haven't done a lot of research on this, but I haven't found a historical account that places blame on the man. It seems rather obvious that women in the past were falsely accused of being barren, or cursed by God.
This also falls in line with labeling people as demon possessed, when today we have discovered that people have a mental illness.
