HGTV Drops Show After Controversy Erupts Over Hosts’ Christian Views on Gay Marriage and Abortion


A scheduled do-it-yourself show has been canceled by Home and Garden Television before its fall 2014 premiere after controversy erupted surrounding its hosts’ Christian viewpoints on issues like gay marriage and abortion.

Twin brothers Jason and David Benham were scheduled to appear on “Flip It Forward,” a renovation show that was set to feature them helping families make improvements to their homes.

But when some left-leaning media outlets began digging into their backgrounds and personal perspectives, everything changed.




HGTV quickly responded to media coverage earlier this week surrounding the Benham brothers’ views against gay marriage and abortion, among other issues, by first announcing a review of their arrangement with the brothers and then, within just a few days, axing the show altogether, according to the Washington Post’s the Style Blog.

It all started when Right Wing Watch, a blog that prides itself on “monitoring and exposing the activities of the right-wing movement,” initially published a scathing recap of the Benham brothers’ political activity Tuesday, including background on their father, Flip Benham, an outspoken Christian minister.

The Benham Brothers Losing Even More

Well, for the Benham Brothers, unashamed of their Christian faith and all that it teaches, losing their television show wasn't enough. Now they are losing their business, because of the rabid and virulent thought police contagion. This time that thought police resides within SunTrust Banks, which needs a very loud message sent to them, right upside the vault!

I sent them an e-mail protesting their hateful discriminating behavior and demanding that they remove my e-mail from all their databases.

if enough Christians do what I did, they might get the message.

Wow. This is infuriating. I hope they do go to court. People need to wake up and fight back against this junk. Not physically, but we must make our voices heard, or we'll wake up someday with a number on our arm and a cross on our sleeve.

It is totally infuriating. Anyone who can't see the religious discrimination is blind. Maybe the bank can suggest "sensitivity training" to conflict with their religious beliefs.

not sure the verasity of this, but I heard on the radio today that these guys have been told by their bank that they dont want to do business with them.

According to Daily Caller, SunTrust Bank has reversed the decision to cut ties after a massive uproar by conservatives.

They're blaming it on a 3rd party vendor and said it was not SunTrust Bank who made the decision. SunTrust says it respects the First Amendment rights and Freedom of Religion for all Americans.

Time to cut ties with the 3rd party, wouldn't you think?

Glad to see SunTrust moved so quickly to reverse this.
