My thought of the day
Psa 127:1 KJV A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
I always read this verse, and thought of it many times, as we all have, but VAIN never stood out to me as much until lately. VAIN is the state of being self-prideful. When one does something in VAIN, it means they are doing it to exalt themselves.
THAT made the whole verse come alive to me. Whoever builds a house. THEY get the glory when it is finished. They feel pride in their accomplishment. And that is great, unless it is the HOUSE OF THE LORD we're talking about.
How else could one get more glory than to build God's house that is meant to cause people to glorify God, and keeping in one's mind that "I BUILT THAT"? In effect, the glory going to God somewhat goes to the person, at least in the person's own mind.
In all our ways, GOD needs to build the house. God needs to be fully relied upon in faith. Not only does that bring genuine miracles into fruition, but it genuinely glorifies God. The more we depend upon God for things in life and for decisions to be worked out, the more miraculous things happen, and the more he gets glory. Otherwise, we are filled with self-pride and we have a devil in the universe that resulted from self-pride. Go figure.
In everything, let's ask GOD to direct, and then have faith HE WILL DO IT. Refrain from the temptation to just barge through and do what we think is right. WONDERS will take place!
I really think God is trying to train us for that for whatever He has for us in the eternity future. Imagine what we will be doing in the universe after this life is over for God to have brought us through so many lessons in THIS LIFE, teaching us to fully rely upon Him?

Good post. The most concise thought of Psalm 127:1 - It is vain: "useless" to try and build anything by yourself.
We can make our plans, but God should determine our steps. Proverbs 16:9

Amen!!!! Useless. Uselessness is indeed the better word.

Re: My thought of the day
Awesome thought.
Isn't it something that God's plan was for a Tabernacle. This Tabernacle was made after the plan in heaven. (Hebrews)
This tabernacle was mobile, efficient, and was the center of the nation of Israel.
It was called the Tabernacle in the wilderness or the Tabernacle of God.
Man, though, messes with it and builds temples. But after the Temples are built they are named after the builder.
Solomon's Temple, Herod's Temple.
The Tabernacle was God's but the Temples were of man.
Isn't it something that in our generation we see God blessing a work and the first thing that man wants to do is build a big church.
Next we see that that church is now called after that man and not God.
Ie, Joel Holmes' church in Little rock, Mangun's church in Alexandria, and etc.
Just my opinion.

"And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle..."
Moses, indeed, built the Tabernacle; likewise, God chose Solomon to build the Temple, although
David gathered much material to be added to the Temple. Both were figures of something better
that was to come: the Church.
It is the Lord Jesus who is building the Church, upon "...the foundation of the apostles and prophets...".
"Upon this rock will I build my Church."

Re: My thought of the day
What's interesting is that God chose mount Zion. But Moses' tabernacle was left at Gibeon, whereas David set up a tabernacle at Zion. And the ark was at Zion, in David's tent, not Moses'.
And then Solomon comes along to build the Temple... and he builds it on Moriah instead if Zion...in spite of what God had said in the psalms....Zion is his chosen location...

There is a controversy about that. Some say Zion is Moriah.
But the true Zion is in glory, heaven. Jesus is there now on the throne.

Re: My thought of the day
Easton said this of Moriah: " It is usually included in Zion, to the north-east of which it lay, and from which it was separated by the Tyropoean valley. "

Re: My thought of the day
Yes, Moriah is often claimed to be Zion. But look at 1 Kings 8:1. It says they were going bring up the ark "from Zion". While it may be that later on, " Zion" was used as a term for the whole area, nevertheless, from what I have been able to tell, TECHNICALLY the Temple was built "next door" to Zion... a rather interesting point.
