What it means to be a "Christian"....

I don't post often - in fact don't even sign on much anymore; however, with all the "hub-bub" of what is going on in the UPCI after the passing of resolution 4 - I thought I would post this. It was written by a woman for women; however, I think it is applicable to men as well. I just want the world to see Jesus in me.

"A woman's heart should be so hidden in Christ

that a man should have to seek Him first to find her."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'"

I'm whispering "I was lost, Now I'm found and forgiven."

When I say... "I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride.

I'm confessing that I stumble and need Christ to be my guide.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong.

I'm professing that I'm weak and need His strength to carry on.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success.

I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect,

My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain..

I have my share of heartaches, so I call upon His name.

When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou,

I'm just a simple sinner Who received God's good grace, somehow!

Pretty is as Pretty does... but beautiful is just plain beautiful!

Have a blessed day!

SweetPea,

Thanks for the timely post! While preaching/teaching a while back, I asked the congregation how long it had been since someone had told them "My, your Jesus sure looks good on you!" For as many as are baptized into Christ have PUT ON CHRIST.

The title of the message was "Dressing for Success in the Kingdom".. the focus was on the rules of Godly dress and had nothing to do with outward appearance. I used several rules the first of which was PUT ON CHRIST and if you have trouble with any of the other "rules" like being clothed with humility, or having on the whole armor of God, or avoiding the "layered look" of Christian profession combined with a haughty carnal attitude always refer back to rule #1. Put on Christ!

Thanks again for a great post!

I recently heard a well-known Baptist minister's wife do a terrific job speaking about wearing "The Designer's Label". It helps to be reminded of what we are told to put on and also some things we are to put off!

This is one of my favorite quotes, and I think that is the ultimate reminder to me about my own Christianity. The definitive answer on what it means to be a Christian, is to be "Christ like." To strive to be like Christ in all that we do, as well as say.

"What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say." Ralph Waldo Emerson

This is another Emerson quote that is also somewhat timely, in the current climate.

"The only sin which we never forgive in each other is difference of opinion."
