Ode to the POSSUM CATCHER!

Just have to do this. In fact, it just wouldn't be right if I didn't do this.

Got a call today from Coonskinner, who I've been trying to get to come preach for me for quite some time. The kids have a spring break coming up and they are going to get to spend some time with us at our humble abode.

In talking to the Most High Potentate Coonskinner and his illustrious More Potentated Sis. Coonskinner we were laughing and making plans. Finally, my wife (who was driving me to a great little catfish restaurant for lunch) said, "Who is that?"

I told her the proper name of Bishop Most High and Mrs. Potentate saying, "The ones we ate with at General Conference."

Keep in mind, my wife has no time nor regard for fine upstanding forums such as this. She knows two things: I'm on it some and people have screen names (appropriately dubbed 'computer identities' by her). Finally she realized who I was talking about... but couldn't quite remember 'Coonskinner' and said, "OH, YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT POSSUM CATCHER!"

It's times like these that I'm positive God loves me!

Possums aren't so bad... but they are worthless. I remember catching a skunk in a trap - that got nasty...

I remember getting $40.00 for Coonskins, $4.00 for possums, and $3.00 for skunk - or $2.00 for an unskinned skunk. My friend's mother would actually let him put skunks in the freezer til the buyer came around.

Does Coonskinner eat coon meat?

Skunks are nasty critters.
I ran into one by mistake in my back yard early one morning.
He was more startled than I and came out the worse for wear.

Nailed me right in the face!

Actually, no... She was concerned that he would think her rude (or insane, which would be much closer) so I had to call him back and tell him that she meant nothing by it. They still have their plans intact. She simply couldn't remember 'Coonskinner'.

I guess I should be thankful that she didn't think it had anything to do with donkeys....
