Apostolic Minister/State Rep. voted for AZ bill

It remains to be seen how Hispanic leaders like Rodriguez will deal with him, but I suspect it will not be pleasant.

Is this the bill that allows law enforcement to check the legal status of people they have stopped, cited or arrested for other reasons?

Okay...answered my own question.

I'm not sure how this makes the pastor a hypocrite. It appears, from the story, that even though the pastor and his parents came here to escape El Salvador, presumably without entering the proper way, they did pursue citizenship once in the country. They didn't hide from the government, IOW.

Am I missing something? I feel the article is very unfair. A pastor has an obligation to be an example to the congregation, and that includes being a law-abiding citizen.

Yes. It enforces laws which are already on the books. Sort of like all the new civil rights laws which are heaped on each other again and again.

I think the point about the pastor's hypocrisy is that many of his congregants are illegal aliens.

That makes him hypocritical? How? What would be expected in order for it to not be hypocritical? For him to turn them all over to law enforcement? The bill in question isn't even asking for that kind of action. It's just giving law enforcement the right to check immigration status when a person is detained for ANOTHER lawful cause.

He has been fed, clothed, luxuries, etc from the toils of these illegals, growing up under his dad ... as I am sure that his dad did not return their tithes and offerings.

Nor I am sure, has he returned any offerings and salaries he's received from the sweat of their labor for peanuts.

Yet they faithfully give ... when they don't have ... and for every pet project ... even when some these men have them giving multiple offerings in any given service.

Since the new law doesn't require pastors to ask for a "suspected illegal's" documents, how is this hypocritical?

The only ones being instructed to ask, are local law enforcement... and then, only when they are already involved in a "legal contact" ... and then, only if it's "practical."
