Where Were You When You Received?

Where were you when you received the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues the first time?


I was in the 3 row, sitting where Bro. and Sis. D******* normally sat.(This was before I realized church came with assigned seats ) It was during worship service, and these people were havin themselves a time! I was at that early stage in my walk where I was still nervous about raising my hands in front of other people. (Remember them days?) I finally gave in, raised my hands, felt a sort of rumbling that caused my body to shake, and the next thing I knew I was speaking in tongues! It kinda freaked me out in a big way, but a good way. I had known about speaking in tongues all my life, but actually having it happen for the first time was completely different than what I thought it would be. Afterwards, the biggest change I noticed was how my understanding of God's Word was starting to change. I started getting insights and putting scriptures together like never before. God completely changed my life that night!

I received the Holy Ghost at baptism in my home as a child.. I spoke in tongues some years later while in prayer

I don't remember. I don't even remember how old I was. I know we started attending an AoG church when I was 12 or 13, so I was probably around 13, 14.

I could hedge awhile, or I could just outright say I have had some incredible experiences with God since I've been back, but not really what y'all would call being filled with the Holy Ghost.

Hmmmmm. So what you are saying is that you haven't had tongues restored to you since you came back. Could it maybe be because of guilt you feel over your time away from God? I know that guilt can be a powerful enemy against faith. You don't have to talk about this publicly if you don't want to.

I was standing in the front of the church in Molino FL where Bro Groce currently pastors. At that time, 1974, Bro Neil was pastor. My father had finished preaching and folks where going to the front to pray. My mom was on one side, Sis Neil on the other side. I was 9 yrs old. I remember knowing I wanted the Holy Ghost so bad and I wanted it right then and there. I felt like someone smacked me in the head and knocked me flat on my back and as I went down I know I was speaking in tongues. I remember hearing my mom talk later about it. She said you know how some people make sounds that are not really understandable? Well that was not you. You hit the floor speaking in another language as plain and clear as anything. I do not know how long I prayed but It felt like no time at all but when I got up there was very few people still around the front most had already started leaving.

That was 34 yrs ago this June.

It has not been an easy road but Thank God I am still on the same road.
