Re: Sermons on Navigating Change?
For some reason I think of Elijah and Elisha. Both were prophets, yet their "techniques" were very different. Elijah, with his rough and to the point, "Eveyone here who worships Baal is gonna burn forever in hell!" approach. (Kind reminds me of someone who.... oh, never mind). He wouldn't sit and mingle with those ungodly people. He'd just march right in, say what he had to say, then, head back for the hills.
Eliha was different. He "rubbed elbows" with the high and mighty, ate with 'em, was, actually a pretty good guy to be around. Very different from his mentor. Yet, the Bible tells us that Elishas was just as bold in his ministry and performed twice as many miracles as his predecessor- and even raised one person from the dead, after he, himself, was dead.
The point is- yesterdays techniques, yesterdays tools, were good... yesterday. A new face, a new outreach will sometimes do what yesterdays face and yesterdays methods won't do.
