Evening with the Alvears
I just spent an enjoyable evening with my friends, Bro. & Sis. Alvear and their adorable grandson Gabriel. We had pizza and games, shopped a little, and she did laundry at my house. It was good for them to have a free day - they have been really traveling non-stop lately. Darcie, who used to be on AFF, met us with her kids so Gabriel would have someone his age to play with. They all had a great time!
I'm so thankful to call the Alvears my friends. They are true examples of God's love and compassion.

They couldn't have picked a better place for "R&R"!! You're the perfect hostess! I had wondered just yesterday where the Alvear's were.

Re: Evening with the Alvears
We had a wonderful time....A million thanks to Sherri.
She sure pampered us...ha....cookies, pizza, coke...lol...
Oh, yes she took us by their new church...wow what a lovely building. Got to meet several of their people...They are beyond sweet...so kind and caring.
Well, I won't list all the blessings from yesterday right now but they were many...
Oh, yes she drove us by Brother Lance's beautiful church also. Brother Alvear got out but no one was at the church or we would have said hi to them also.
I saw Brother Taylor also a few days ago that also has a church in Jackson. Such sweet people live in Jackson!

Re: Evening with the Alvears
Sister Alvear,
I certainly hope you did not allow any of those charismatics to sprinkle that charismatic dust on you! That Sherri lady does seem very nice. So sad she wants to look like Jan Crouch and Tammy Faye Bakker. Tsk,tsk, tsk. Oh, and did you see that facial hair on her husband???? Looks like some kind of street preacher in New York City!

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
