Modern Technology & The Christian Walk
When the Kindle Fire came out I bought it because it was the size of an ebook reader combined with the capability of a tablet computer.
I have enjoyed it a lot even though it is a little heavy (like reading a hardback book)
I have downloaded several different versions of the Bible to it and use it at church now rather than my print Bible.
A couple of Sundays ago I remembered that I had once again forgotten to buy the Gods Word edition of the Bible that my pastor most often uses. As he started his sermon I was able to connect to the churches wi fi hookup, go to the Amazon marketplace, and in about a minute I had bought and downloaded that version of the Bible!
I am just amazed at how fast technology is changing the fundamental way we live our lives. A couple of years ago I would have had to make a trip to a store to buy a hard copy of that Bible where today I had it in seconds.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I wonder if any church book stores sell, or are allowed to sell any e-readers? I know you can buy the Kindles at Best Buy, but am curious if any retailer can sell them, such as one owned by a church.

Re: Modern Technology & The Christian Walk
I use the Bible app on my phone both in church and in my studies. I still have Bibles in book form that I use.
In my devotion and reading I use the app on my phone that will listen and read along. It's great! I love it! Some of the more old school saints still might have to warm up to it, but the word is the word, whether it's printed or on an iphone.

Re: Modern Technology & The Christian Walk
And yes technology is amazing, especially how it allows the free flow of information. Even though it has been discussed many times here over the years, sites such as this and the MANY like it have been the main obstacle to those who wish to keep the saints living in ignorance (whether by design or not). Stuff simply cannot be hid anymore! People realize that they are not the only ones who have a particular viewpoint, but there are MANY like them.

I don't see any sin in using technology, the REAL sin is that your pastor is using the "God's Word" edition of the Bible, instead of the King James version!!!!! Every true Christian knows that the KJV is the only "God sanctioned" version of the Word!!!!

Philosophically I don't think any ereader manufacturer would have a problem with a church or church bookstore selling their product but from a practical standpoint the better known ebooks have distribution deals that determinie who sells their product.
I know that in addition to Amazon itself selling the Kindles Best Buy and Wal Mart sell them and probably other retailers. I also see the Nook at some office supply stores in addition to Barnes and Noble.
The off brand ones probably are happy for anybody to sell them!
The cool thing about me buying my kindle fire directly from Amazon is that it synced up with my Amazon account automatically when I first turned it on.

Re: Modern Technology & The Christian Walk
We use to carry our bibles around with us no matter where we went, work, play, shopping, everywhere.
But not today, most are ashamed to carry anything like that and others, it would be a reproach toward what they are suppose to stand for.
Carrying the bible in view allowed many hours that people would actually walk up to you and ask a question concerning something they thought was in the bible or something they had been taught or heard. It became a great tool to open the door to witness and even in a lot of the cases right on the street we got down on our knees and prayed with the sinner and lead him to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Also carrying the bible caused a lot of verbal ridicule at places like, stores and shopping malls, and especially at work from the baptist in the break room. They would always bring up some question in front of all the lost workers to try and make us look bad in front of them, just because we were pentecostal and they thought we were of the devil. Now if that was the spirit of truth working in them it sure didn't have very much compassion ans understanding.
No it was a spirit of indifference stating we're right and your wrong and we going to prove it in front of everyone and make you look bad.
I went to their church once just to see where these rude and obnoxious people came from. Once there I was never so bored in all my life. If that is the way heaven is, oh boy!

I read one review at Amazon where one person ordered a Kindle Fire and the box was delivered to their house empty! It was stated right on the box that a Kindle Fire was in there. The thief then proceeded to shop to their hearts content at Amazon as there was no security built in to the Kindle to prevent them from doing so and they had direct access to the unfortunate purchasers account.

I'm finding it hard to replace twenty translations of a verse on a screen...
