Family trouble

Please say a prayer for direction for our family. It has been torn apart.

My husband and I have been shunned for several years now by his immediate family. They wont discuss with us, so we don't know the actual cause, but we believe it is meant as punishment for not leaving a church that "went charismatic" and for not following them to their new church.

I would like prayer for direction because I am unsure how to handle this situation. We are following God, not his family, so we don't feel badly about our decision to stay. However, I want to make very sure to handle this situation in a way that is pleasing to God and I am not sure what that way is.

Do we continue to ignore and avoid? What should be my course of action at funeral homes (the only time we see them, though we live 5 minutes apart?

It may help to know that we are not the only ones being shunned. These people claim to love but not want anything to do with anyone not in their church, including family (parents, grandparents, siblings, children, etc.). They state there is no problem, they just don't want to be around any of us or have any communication or dealings with us. They are extremely hateful and grudge-holding and say they don't care what happens to anyone outside of their church.

I am greatly grieved. Are they involved in a cult or just wicked and misled people? How can I handle this situation in a way that is beneficial and brings honor to God?

Ephesians 4

Be kind and loving whenever you see them, speak the truth in love, always loving them, always praying for them, always with longsuffering, kindness and gentleness.

Re: Family trouble

Thanks! Do you all think I should try to set up meeting times, invite them to things, or just leave them alone?

Re: Family trouble

I would invite them. But then not be surprised if they decline. But keep inviting. Always in LOVE. Don't discuss the church situation at all. Talk about anything else, but let that subject go for now until the relationship has been healed a whole lot more. You can't force them to have a relationship with you. But you can keep offering the hand of love and fellowship. That's all you are required to do Best wishes.
