For lack of a better place to post this, I am putting it in the Fellowship Hall, but didn't see if there was a specific place to discuss health related issues... anyway...
I've been hearing and reading on some interesting things concerning Coconut oil, and Oil of Oregano.
Just curious if anyone else here has tried either of these products, and could offer any opinion, insight, or whatever.
You can google coconut oil, and oil of oregano, and come up with some pretty interesting stuff, and since this forum is a melting pot, sounding board, and everything else in between, thought I would check in here to see yea or nay ....
I have heard that Coconut oil is good for your skin and hair as a beauty treatment.
I don't know anything about Oil of Oregano.
What were you planning on using the Coconut oil for?

We just started using coconut oil here, after watching this video and doing some online research.

I eat coconut oil plain, it is loaded with healthy saturated fat, which might sound like an oxymoron to anyone who listens to the medical establishment, but they are belatedly back-pedaling on that anyway, http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=...d&e=3ee4e2434a
Coconut oil is great in smoothies, is a good replacement for lard in recipes, and is great on the trail for multiple uses. I have a recipe for
nuke for 10 seconds to aid blending, will somewhat harden at room temp to a butter consistency, does not need refrigeration, not recommended for Hawiians.
I think the gist of coconut oil is to provide a good saturated fat source, which is difficult in our food supply.
Why oregano oil, I wonder?
Didnt Micky-Dee's get slammed for cooking thier french fries in coconut oil a few years ago?
Not sure, but hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated coconut oil IS bad for you. Unrefined coconut oil, however, actually raises your good cholesterol levels. And it has a high smoke point (I believe I read somewhere that the smoke point is 450), so it's good for cooking.

Ah, yes, I assumed an organic source; hydrogenated anything is poison. I personally would not even buy "Organic" coconut oil from a multi-national corp.
I take pure organic coconut oil every day. I ususally eat it on a piece of sprotued bread toast for breakfast or just swallow it. I cook with it but also use butter, ghee and lard rendered from my own pigs so I am not replacing any of those things with it.
I use it on my skin, in my hair as a conditioner and make soap with it. I use it on my animals as udder balm and as the base of poltuces and salves.
I use oil or oregano diluted in coconut for my joints (I have arthritis) in a steamer when I am congested, etc. I do not take it internally becasue it gives me reflux but so does lots of other stuff. It is a very powerful antibiotic antifungal and antinflamatory. I have also used it as an infusion for a goat with mastitis instead of conventional antibiotics as once an organic milking animal has had antibiotics they have to be removed from the program. It was very effective.
Lastly I use a combo of vinegar, oil of oregano, cedar oil and water in a spray bottle to replace most household cleaners. I clean the bathroom and kitchen with it. I do not like to use chems in my house.
