Arise My Love
This morning I woke up with an old song running through my mind. I had not heard it in years. We used to have it on a 33 and 1/3 long play record album. Some in this group are probably too young to even know what a 33 and 1/3 record album is.
This song was written by Bro. Roosevelt York and sung by him and his family. At that time he was pastor of the Apostolic Gospel Church in Ironton, OH which is about 160 miles from where I live. I've never been there.
Here's the song as far as I can remember it. It's been many years since I've heard it.
Arise My Love
Verse 1
The winter time is over and the springtime now has come
The birds are sweetly singing and the humming birdies hum
The voice of the turtle dove in tones of sweetest love
Is praising and adoring the Matchless One above.
Chorus
The fig tree now is budding and soon green figs shall appear
With Israel now returning home, His coming draweth near
When He shall say, “Arise my love, arise and come away
Arise my love, my dove my love, you’re going home to stay.
Verse 2
The beautiful flowers are blooming and their sweet aromas roll
It makes me think of Heaven, that beautiful home of the soul
Where the walls are made of jasper and the streets of purest gold
Where the river of life is flowing and beautiful angels stroll.
Verse 3
John saw a throne in Heaven and the One that sat thereon
Whose countenance was as jasper and like a sardine stone
With a rainbow for an halo, oh what a sight to see
With saints robed in while all around Him, upon a glassy sea.
