Arsonist set our church on fire last night!
About 11:45 pm last night fire and burglar alarms went off at our church due to an arsonist or arsonists attempting to burn it down. Thank heavens the fire damage is minimal as the sprinkler system worked well and the fire department responded quickly. A lot of water damage though from the sprinklers.
Here is a link to a tv stations report about it. I will also see if I can post pics. Please pray for a quick uneventful cleanup. Already a very busy week for our church as for the first time we are having our quarterly Praise & Worship event this Friday night at an outdoor venue in town. A good thing I guess as it would have been hard to have had it at the church as it turns out.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

CC1,
If it was in fact intentional I hope that the perp is found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Prayers for his/her salvation, of course.
Praying for you guys.

CC1, praying for your church family. This is sad.

Re: Arsonist set our church on fire last night!
Thank you for all of the kind thoughts and prayers. According to at least one news report a can of gasoline was found near the donation bins that were set on fire in the central hallway.
We share a central entrance way to the building with the Brewery that is at the rear of the building. Double glass doors lead into this central hall that is probably 15 feet wide or so. About 15 feet into the building there are double glass doors to the left as well as glass windows going into our sanctuary and the bulk of our space including Sunday School rooms and a loft. Opposite the common hallway there is another set of double glass doors going into about 4,000 sq feet of area we built out this year for offices and meeting rooms. Because the donation bins were in the common hallway area I don't know if someone from the church left that outside / main door to the hallway unlocked or if the Brewery did. It would not be unusual for there to be church folks there late at night and in fact last night was one of our "NEXT Class" meetings where people new to the church or interested in it can come and hear our pastors testimony, find out about the church, and take a tour. Maybe somebody didn't like what they heard or the tour and came back later!
