Oh How Happy I Am!

The Joy of Painting is on youtube. Every episode!

https://www.youtube.com/user/BobRossInc

This was one of the biggest parts of my childhood. I know his hair was funny looking, and his style and manner was hippie-ish and a bit far out, but what a great painter and gentle soul he was.

Anyone else have fond memories of the Joy of Painting?

Re: Oh How Happy I Am!

My daughter loves the painting style of Bob Ross. She is a painter and has watched some of his painting videos and they helped her a lot. He could do some amazing paintings in a short amount of time.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

I absolutely hated that show.

LOL. I suppose my ADHD high energy childhood couldn't handle that sedate approach.

How about flying off a building?

What about that?

During a very unhappy, abused childhood, Bob Ross provided a level of comfort and inspiration for me that I couldn't find anywhere else, certainly not at home.

His show transcended the joy of painting for me. I never painted, and never wanted to. I just enjoyed the tranquility he seemed to represent. I am, perhaps, overly fond and nostalgic for his work.
