Watch Your Words!!!
On Sunday, we cleaned out my mom's old home. We went through boxes and boxes of letters and old church and district business. My father when he was alive, had been on the district boards in Illinois and Tennessee.
I found my father's passport for his trip to Israel in 1967 right after the six day war. I also found this small piece called "Watch Your Words", which he obviously placed in high priority.
Quote:
Watch Your Words
Yesterday in anger I said a word. The first effects were not so harmful, but today I see the ruin it is leaving behind. Yesterday I repeated a rumor about a friend (or perhaps a friend's friend). Today a dozen hearts are bleeding. Oh! the folly of thoughtless words - words that I cannot call back.
May God help us all to watch our tongue and weigh our words, to turn away wrath with a soft answer, to keep faith with friend's secrets and never repeat hurtful words. God help us to never roll a stone carelessly - our loved ones and friends may be in the valley.

Good stuff.
We not only need to watch our words be we need to try and hear them as those that are listening would.

Did you save all the district info?? I would bet that both districts would love to have the info if there is a historian in the district.

I love stuff like this! You were blessed and are blessed to have had such a wise man as a father.
If you have more of these words of wisdom, it would be a great and a blessing to hear more.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to look over all the board meeting agendas. I did peruse at a few and it was interesting to see what all the board had to make decisions on! There were preachers seeking a license, and each had positives and negatives from research.
I ended up tossing all that stuff in the garbage.

Right.
Something that I've done for many many years to the point that sometimes I get annoyed with myself for it is before I reply to l questions and make comments, etc. in conversation is play it over in my mind first before I say it and think of how it's going to "sound" in the ears of the person listening.
I've rarely gotten into trouble because of what comes out of my mouth. I'm usually very very careful. Maybe too careful, but it seems to have served me well thus far.

Thanks y'all! Going through those boxes sure brought back a lot of memories!
BTW, we donated over a thousand of dad's study books to the local UPC for their church library.
