I am attempting to download it now-we'll see if it works.

I use it and like it. It is normal. Microsoft had to go and scramble the new office up so that the hapless users basically have to learn a new program. So rather than learn a new program I switched. Good, works, Free. Open office is a home run with the bases loaded.

Wow...JA says its a grand salami!
Let's all raise our mice (hopefully optical) in a toast for OpenOffice!
Thanks for the solid endorsement based on your experience and I am solidly in your 'AMEN corner' when it comes to the ribbon-crazed, new touch and feel, that effectively requires a user to re-learn MSOffice.
When you add the fact that licensing costs for MSOffice are just plain rude (second only to the OS charges!)

Another good thing about it is that it is completely compatible with MSoffice, files can be saved out of it as documents, power point or excel. I use it here at work because our office version is still at 2000, no problems collaborating. I can open an excel file and save it back transparently.
I have OpenOffice on my son's computer and am using it now. I like it pretty well. I especially like the fact that it can create PDFs.
There are a few additional choices other than OpenOffice also. HERE IS A LINK that lists those.
OpenOffice and StarOffice are both products of Sun Microsystems. The difference is some features and that Open is free and Star is $34.95.
The one called ZOHO is pretty cool. I have played with it and it is very much like MS Office.
