It's socialism either way. Even if not mandated, who gets the bill for the freebies ? Those of us who pay.

This "victory" for Obama will cause him to lose this Fall!
WOW , very interesting take. So the conservative judge takes a bunt for the home team.

If your right, its a pretty risky roll of the dice, but I like it.

It wouldn't be that way if either party worked on making Healthcare more affordable. People really would like to pay for their own insurance. "The poor you will always have with you." Matthew 26:11.

Are they supposed to be playing politics or going by the rule of law? That was Gingrich's argument.

Re: Sad Faces at GOP TV

The GOP and conservative Super Pacs need to run ads showing Obama repeatedly stating that the mandate was NOT a tax split screen with the Supreme's decision that it is indeed a tax . Not only a tax but that is the only legal justification for it to stand as it does not meet the criteria of the commerce clause that the Obama admin argued it under.

I am not surprised at the ruling. I felt all along there was a 70% chance or better this would happen. The main point is that just because the bill / program is declared legal does not make it a good bill / program.

I don't think Roberts was playing politics. I believe he honestly felt his vote was correct legally.

However I do believe if it had been struck down it would have turned Obama into a martyr for the liberals / socialists and it would have lit a fire under them which we don't need.

Now instead hopefully it will get conservatives / Republicans motivated to make sure that Romney and a Republican majority in both the Senate and House get elected.

Not going to be easy though as I believe Obama is currently leading in most of the swing states. Something that blows my mind. That wishy washy 30-40% who are not political and just support whoever strikes their fancy may kill us in this election.

I'd be happy with a majority in the House and Senate to keep a divided government until we could get a real conservative in the WH in 2016.

If Romney puts out a plan that works, more power to him, but he loves mandates and that is a big government issue he supports. I don't have confidence in Romney.

I agree, wholeheartedly, with Ron Paul on his comments concerning the ruling.

“I strongly disagree with today’s decision by the Supreme Court, but I am not surprised. The Court has a dismal record when it come to protecting liberty against unconstitutional excesses by Congress.

“Today we should remember that virtually everything government does is a ‘mandate.’ The issue is not whether Congress can compel commerce by forcing you to buy insurance, or simply compel you to pay a tax if you don’t. The issue is that this compulsion implies the use of government force against those who refuse. The fundamental hallmark of a free society should be the rejection of force. In a free society, therefore, individuals could opt out of “Obamacare” without paying a government tribute.

“Those of us in Congress who believe in individual liberty must work tirelessly to repeal this national health care law and reduce federal involvement in healthcare generally. Obamacare can only increase third party interference in the doctor-patient relationship, increase costs, and reduce the quality of care. Only free market medicine can restore the critical independence of doctors, reduce costs through real competition and price sensitivity, and eliminate enormous paperwork burdens. Americans will opt out of Obamacare with or without Congress, but we can seize the opportunity today by crafting the legal framework to allow them to do so.”

Seems that others thinks Roberts made a political move:
