Online vs. On-campus

I enjoyed the online courses I took at secular schools. Main reason? Much easier to schluff through. And no wasted time in class discussing things (where a person might actually be introduced to new ideas). Just jump online, say a word or two, write some papers, take a test. Of course, my experience may be different than others'.

I am a completely online student. The University I attend does not treat us like second rate students, and it is certainly not a degree mill. I spend from 6 to 11 hours per class per week. I know that my highest brain time is about 4:30 am- 11. Traditional classes are not usually that early, and I work anyway, so my choices are night classes (I WOULD DIE!!) or quitting work (Not possible at this time).

I have weekly reading, writing assignments, discussion boards, etc. I have to write papers and listen to lectures. Basically, my Saturdays are taken up with reading and assignments and the rest of the week I do fill-in work early in the AM before work. I hold an office in the Communication honor society.

My degree will say Regent University not "Loser Online". I will walk with my class in May at graduation, I will be prayed over individually at a commissioning, and I will be wearing honor cords.

I will say this, I know two people who are taking online classes, one for a master's in theology from a hole-in-the wall, only online school; honestly it seems extremely easy. The other person is in one of the most popular online schools. If she is running late, she will have her brother take a test or write a paper for her, and she has taken three classes more than once. I am sure that this happens at my university as well, but when you have to sign an honor statement before taking an online test, it makes you think.

My husband attended my university on campus for his graduate degree, it is a great school, anyone who would like to know more about it, feel free to PM me.

Oh and by the way Dr. Vaughn, there is no "s" on the end of Regent.

My only question about online bible colleges is, HOW on Earth will a young lady meet her future pastor-husband in an online setting? Unless a subscription to match.com or eHarmony is included with the tuition I do not see it happening.

I think that the experience that you get is what you put into it. I hear about the kind of things that go on in classrooms at the community college and I am thankful that I am not there.

I love the fact that we are taught all things with a Christian worldview- from literature to communication. One of our textbooks had an entire chapter on the evolution factors involved in nonverbal communication. Instead of glossing over it, we got into a class discussion. We wrote about it and hashed out some of thoughts on evolution in general.

in Art appreciation we discussed Christian influence on art. In government classes, we looked at God's view of politics according to scripture- does God support democracy? (an argument can be made that he does not, though I do not support that).

We have studied the works of John Locke, Shakespeare, St.Augustine, Plato, C.S. Lewis and Francis Schaeffer. We have looked at the Magna Carta, The Constitution, Scripture (in every class), and the Federalist Papers. We have discussed worldviews and leadership, Christian Education and homeschooling. We have talked about Kingdom living and reconstructionism. We have discussed capitalism vs a social Gospel.

In some ways its like AFF but with required reading and tests . We have cool teachers like Renda and Hoovie and some not so cool teachers like....
There are students that write endlessly (like myself) and some that always make it short and sweet. When we have Wimba Classes (an online voice class) there are people who talk a lot (like me) and those who don't say much at all... I love it and I would not trade my education for anything.

I heard of Regent. From what I heard is that Regent is one of the first to offer complete degrees online. Practically all colleges have online courses; must be the way of the future.
