Re: To the Jew first...
I'm not sure if the people who live in other areas realize, but some of us very rarely see Jewish people... about the only time I see them is when I am traveling on business to the North East, like New York and New Jersey... I do realize that some of them do not "look the part" in the way they dress, so I may know Jewish people without realizing it.
Where I live, I would say that even during the holidays where they wear the skull caps, I could look around all day and never see one. The first time I ever met a Jewish person, I was 19 years old and had just joined the Navy and I was wondering why this one guy was "out of uniform" (because he was wearing a Yamika -sorry don't know how to spell that)
Growing up, we were always hearing bible stories about the Jews, but had no practical knowledge of them as a people living today, they were just people in the Bible. Even when Israel would somehow come up in conversation, I always assumed it was biblical Israel and not any current country. So many geographic names have changed since Biblical times it was not until I was in my mid-20's that I started to match up places in the Bible with places that exist today.
I only bring this up to give a different perspective since some people seem to believe that everyone interacts with Jewish people on a regular, daily basis.
