Did you hear his press conference? I had to turn it off when I realized he isn't going to do a single thing to bring relief for all us peons.
Except maybe open up the reserves, which is the last thing he should do.

He's running for office, he has to keep his base happy, I suppose.

Thats sad....

Whats worse, I can remember when you could buy 21 gallons of gas for 6.75.

Now thats really sad!

I can remember the first time I saw gas for 75 cents a gallon. I vowed then and there that I would never pay .75 for a gallon of gas. I have since repented for that lie.

I'm assuming you also remember that you made $1.15 an hour then, correct?

Re: Remember when....

My wife like to recall the time we bought gas at .11c per gallon. We drove, leaving Houston for Biloxi, Miss. On the way, I ran low of gas and needed to gas up. There wre two gas stations along the interstate. The one on my side of the interstate advertised their gas for .12c per gallon. Directly across the interstate was a gas station advertising their gas for .11c per gallon. There was no way that I was going to pay that high price on my side of the interstate. Instead, I would go down to the available turn-around and come back to the opposite side and get it at the standard .11c. The only thing, I drove about three or four miles on down the highway to get to a turn-around. Then after getting the gas, I had to continue on for about a mile before I found a turn-around to get back to my original point which was in front of the .12c station. I figure that I drove about ten unnecessary miles to save .01c. I always believed in encouraging competition.

Has anyone ever tracked or charted a comparison of the minimum wage and the price for a gallon of gas and published it?

I don't know about comparing the min wage to the price of gas, but it has been compared to overall inflation. Basically the min wage, when it's been raised, has done more to cause inflation then any other factor.

Re: Remember when....

Could be worse. In Germany gas runs around 1.6 euro per litre, roughly 8 bucks a gallon

That's what I heard. England is paying roughly the same price in their currency, the Pound. They ride bicycles a lot there.

Hey! I live in Texas. If you are going to go anywhere, you are not going to get there by riding A BICYCLE!!! I'd rather get a mule and hitch it to a wagon and put my Lazy Boy recliner in it. I might not get there quite as fast but at least I would be comfortable. In my case, to go to town, I'd have to spend one day getting there and do my shopping that night. I would then camp over night and arrive back home the next evening. If I needed to use the restroom, no problem. There are a lot of woods between here and there. Birds and squirrels don't talk.

Lufkin, the nearest town of any appreciable size is 35 minutes away traveling the speed limit. My mule pulling the wagon with me in my lazy boy recliner fully reclined with my feet level with my head would travel about 3 MPH. 35 miles divided by 3 would equal to 11.7 hours of rest in my recliner. Might be the transportation style of the future for us Texans.

You didn't just save one cent, you saved one cent per gallon, which was probably enough to buy two people a cold drink.

Isn't a good portion of that taxes? I think the taxes are upwards of 66% of the price in GB. Germany can't be far behind in that level of taxes.

Re: Remember when....

Last time I bought gas was last week some time and I paid $3.669 per gallon.
It is a little cheaper in our part of town than it is in others.
