Why would you want to speak something you aren't even sure is "real". For, if there's a chance the tongues you can still speak with aren't "real", then by default you are uselessly babbling to yourself.

There is no proof that anyone on the Day of Pentecost spoke in a tongue that those hearing them couldn't understand.
But in modern day Pentecost those who hear rarely understand, it just isn't the same thing happening now in most cases, as it was then.
