Birth control is any means to prevent procreation.

An abortion is a method of birth control.

THE IUD
The primary mechanism of Intrauterine Devices (IUDs) is abortifacient (abortion inducing). While they may occasionally prevent conception
(i.e., fertilization, where the egg and the sperm unite in the Fallopian tube), this is not the main mechanism of action. After conception occurs, the fertilized egg (a new human being by every medical and biblical definition) arrives in the uterus 6 to 10 days later. If an IUD is in place, this tiny human encounters a hostile uterine environment and is unable to implant into the uterine wall. Thus, he or she is aborted-the IUD has caused the death of this new life in the uterus.
This is why the Food and Drug Administration now labels IUDs as "antiimplantational," describing them as working at the uterine level (6 to 10 days postconception)

Sophisticated studies of women using IUDs have shown that frequently they demonstrate positive pregnancy tests (Beta HCG serum levels) that then become negative again over a period of time. This, of course, demonstrates that conception has taken place and is then followed by the death of the young person in the womb.

These sobering facts have led most Christian doctors (and informed Christian couples) to regard IUDs as morally unacceptable. They are not contraceptives! Even evangelical Protestants who do not necessarily oppose contraception must deal with the often neglected but very real facts about so called contraceptives that are really abortifacients.

That's what we are generally told, but unfortunately that is not always the case. Sometimes conception occurs, but the baby is lost because the pill brings on the period, or creates an atmosphere in the womb where the baby dies.

When I found that out, I CRIED, wondering how many babies I could have had and lost and never knew.

Unfortunately, I was on the pill for three years and never knew this information until I was off years later. I purposely looked for a for of BC that would not cause abortion and found out later that it may have!

As far as the morning after pill, from my understanding the Catholic hopsitals do an ovulation test before giving it. If a woman is not ovulating, it can prevent pregnancy (as in the case of rape) but if a woman is ovulating it could cause abortion. If a woman wanted to take the morning after pill, apparently she could safely do so with the ovulation test if it came back negative.

The compassionate care bill in many states is trying to force Catholic hospitals (and all hospitals) into giving rape victims the option of the morning after pill in any circumstance. There is only a little opposition to this even from some right to life groups because of the controversial nature of this.

My OBGYN started me on the pill at 17, for health reasons. They certainly didn't do anything to improve my overall health. Fortunately, I only took the pill for about 6 months...they made me so absolutely sick (among other things) that I stopped using them altogether...permanently.

Now that I know more about them, I wouldn't even consider it.

Those who have used the 'pill' or had an abortion need our love.

Guilt is good, but guilt needs to be removed to live a Christian life.

Years ago we had a bumper sticker that read 'Abortion - the Ultimate Child Abuse'.

We received verbal confrontation as ladies drove by.

In the Spirit, I knew these ladies were hurting. All I could do was pray for them. I would cry as they drove away.

There are lots of medications that will cause harm to an unborn child and even cause an abortion to happen, but we don't abstain from them if we need them.

This may sound crass, and I'm sure it will come across wrong, but I feel that it's kinda like 'what I don't know won't hurt me', and I'd rather someone take the pill to prevent pregnancy than for them to have a kid they can't afford and instead, abuse or neglect them...even if it causes the baby to be lost (which rarely happens, BTW).

I just know that in my personal case, had the doctors been more informative, and given me ALL the information about them, I don't think I would have taken them to begin with.
