Well, other people seem to go vague (example-I work for a large computer company, etc.) so I am never sure whether I should say I am an IBM employee or not. lol.
I'm kinda in the same boat as you, I am the only person that does exactly what I do, so other people look to me on how to do things... I'm not the smartest person in my field by any means, but I am the only one who does what I do, and we are usually going against internal security policies just to do our jobs (it is their fault for acquiring us without taking into consideration the nature of our business). Slowly but surely I am understanding which specific parts of the security policies we are breaking and can bring this up to management with my recommendations on how we should resolve them.
The bad news is there are no defined-processes for what I do, I make it up as I go... the good news is that I can define the processes, deliverables, etc. for my job myself.
