Reminds me of the worship services where the ones that are not jumping or dancing or engaging in some other type of physical movement are judged as not being spiritual enough or just needing a good old fashioned "prayin' through." Think I'm just generalizing or making false assumptions? Ponder on this: How many times have you heard a worship leader say something like: "Some of you aren't getting it and need to just let go" or "I can tell who is excited about what God has done for them and who's not." As if how high you jump or how crazy you dance is a measure of your love for God...or worse yet, His love and acceptance for you.

As George Bush would say, "You have misunderestimated me". I'm not a "little bit" touchy, I'm WAY touchy on this subject!

Ok, modern....I Hate....HATE.....those suggestive songs that get everyone to dance or jump. "When the Spirit of the Lord moves in my heart, I will dance like David danced." I've been in one service where that was sung, and I stood stone still. There's NO WAY some dingbat with a microphone is going to dictate my bodily movements while I sing a song. Oh man, I get mad jsut thinking about that stupid song.
Come on, I always thought Planetshakers' Jump Around to be a BLAST!

Sounds like Bro. NOW has a pride issue, and doesn't like to humble himself enough to comply with the Hokey Pokey!

I know what you mean though. "If you're not ashamed to praise the Lord, let me see you _________________." 4-chord progression into shout beat, now we're talking.

4-chords??? I thought it was just the basic three.....the one-four-and five chords. Dang, so you're suggesting they actually throw in a minor?? Wow.

You're dang right I have a pride issue (that's what they always say, huh?) Do PlanetShakers do that kind of stuff? We do "Big" a lot. Love that song!!

Hardball's Chris Matthew's favorite religious song.

Okay...WAY touchy. I was tryin to be polite.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm just wondering something: Do you disagree with people jumping or dancing at all in church? I'm not opposed to it if that is how someone wants to express their worship to God.

It's the force feeding that I have a problem with.

Talking about the transitions into the shout beat... usually 5 progressions... they may get REALLY saucy and it'd be more.... StMark would know about that

But there's a difference in celebratory, fun, energetic songs and songs that demand you do 5-push-ups for Jesus.

I'll admit, I'm not fond of most of the pentecostal customs. It's not a natural reaction to the flow of music, looks contrived, and just reinforces the idea that pentecostalism is a separate culture unto its own. That being said, we do mostly guitar-driven, rock-oriented music in our church and currently, because we're a bit short-staffed in "worship-leading" (not fond of that term but for lack of a better one...) I'm doing it. I'm very musical, but as pastor, I'd rather others get involved and lead. Anyway, I'm saying that to say this....I am ALL OVER the place when I lead. It's not contrived, not worked up, not practiced, it just happens because the force of the music and the lyrics make it IMPOSSIBLE to just stand there. I'm not saying I'm like Chris Martin (Coldplay) or Steven Tyler (Areosmith),but it's similar. It's the most fun I've had in my life. Funny thing, though....all those years in pentecostalism? I basically just stood there. I can't really explain why except that it didn't feel real.

Another thing I hate....when people start doing high-fives for Jesus. Give me a break.
