ABIGAIL!!!!!! You of all people. When I saw you post I knew you were going to add something!!!
It's when you give a couple or a person, in need, groceries. It is derived from giving a pound of butter, sugar, flour, etc.
So, what do you like to give people when you get groceries together?
Is that easier?
Where is Brother Epley?!!!!

I think a gift certificate at the local grocery would be great in order to enable the couple or person a choice as to their preference.
In other words, giving a pounding may not include items that need refrigeration and those are the most expensive things to purchase.
I thought of spices, but then I don't know what taste the person would have.
Paper towels, tissue paper.....
Any other ideas?

I haven't read all the responses yet, but I just prefer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Seems to go quite well with my lifestyle.

Okay, maybe I was being teeny bit obtuse...your first post did give some vague hints as to the definition...but I really haven't ever heard it called that before!!!!
1. I'd give them things that go a long way. Such as: Rice, Pasta, Beans, Staples (flour, sugar, salt, pepper, butter, milk, oil), Bread, Frozen vegetables, peanut butter, pancake mix, etc., basic meats, cheese.
2. Things specific to their household...for instance, if they have a baby, then I'd give them a can or two of baby formula, baby food, juice, toddler snacks.
3. Fresh fruits and vegetables.
4. You could include some easy recipes for things that use inexpensive ingredients, such as for Chicken & Dumplings, Taco Pie, Goulash....(if we're talking a young couple, it might be thoughtful...if not...maybe not a good idea...I don't know....)
Anyway...I would just go for the basics. You can make a lot of different things if you have the basic staples.

I also like the grocery store gift certificate idea.

A good pop to the kidneys is best because they can't scream and it will render the bad guy helpess for a sec, that's all the time one needs to give a good beat-down.
But as for me, I run away screaming like a school girl...J/K

Don't forget the washing detergent, deodorant, bath pampering products, etc. Doesn't have to be just food.

What about scales if they are newlyweds.
They can watch the pounds fly on.
