Absolutely! You show disrespect toward your employer, to God, etc. by being late.

The time was set aside for you and by taking that job, attending that church, etc., you contracted to be there on time.

Most employers won't let you just show up whenever you want and you can be fired for frequent tardiness.

Ah, yes, the old "it's good enough" attitude! Well, if we keep on settling for "good enough," will anything ever be "good enough"? Again, being late shows disrespect, laziness, a poor attitude, a lack of commitment, unreliability, etc.

HMMMMM.... let me see... I remember sitting in an idling car in a hotel parking lot.... almost late for a wedding.... but you did find a way to blame that on Dan too... didn't you?

I used to be on time, even early to most places UNTIL I came to live in Brazil. Seems that starting times are just suggestions here LOL. My husband is Brazilian so we are almost always late. Drives me nuts!

Most generally, I have found that these people are always on time for everything else...

I mentioned this very issue a few weeks ago when I preached about the fear of God, and our respect for Him. I also mentioned it a couple of weeks later when I preached on having an intimate relationship with God.

People just keep coming in later and later....

I actually mentioned this while teaching Wednesday night.

I've been to churches where starting times were just suggestions. In fact, the pastor showed up 45 minutes late, and walked on the platform!

IMO, being consistantly late is both selfish and arrogant. It says, "I am not concerned about anyone or anything but me because I am so important I get to be in total control over the lives and schedules of everyone else."

If you show up 15-30 minutes late at our church....you miss most of the praise and worship because we are not going to wait on your selfish rear to get there...we start a 5 minute countdown, at 10:55 a.m., and we start on time no matter who isn't there...

You may ask, "How is being late selfish?" It is selfish because when there is an agreed upon start time, and you are not there, it means that you feel your time is more important than the time that others have put in to get there on time just to wait on you....

I also think that if you are being paid by the hour, or if you are on salary that dictates a certain work schedule, and you are not there yet get paid as though you were...that is stealing....15 minutes a day means you got paid for 1 hour 15 minutes that you weren't there for on a 5 work day schedule....late 30 minutes a day means you stole 2 1/2 hours on a 5 work day scheduele....stealing is a selfish act as well.
