If it's BBQ, I think simple is best.

Cindy,
For the most part I agree, but BBQ doesn't always have to be a simple affair.
You can beef it up (no pun intended) and make it feel like an elegant event - linens, silver, etc.
She could do a silver, white and glass affair. All the ladies could pool their silver candlesticks, etc. and really have something elegant. I'd do white plates.
Or - Black table clothes with red runners, white balloons with white organza ribbon, white roses with a few red intermingled, white linen napkins tied with a red organza ribbon, white plates, nice goblets for the tea, etc.

Yes, I think she is a classy lady. BBQ can be elegant.

Re: Minister's and Wives Retreat to be held.....
Thanks for the ideas....keep em coming.
Sorry I deserted the thread last night. I am home sick from work today. I'm trying to get the upper respiratory infection that's going around here. I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO BE SICK!!!!!!!!!!
We are painting the fellowship hall and the kitchen starting tomorrow and I don't have time to be sick, so pray for me. I HAVE to buy the paint tonight.
Keep the ideas coming. I really like the glasses with heart shaped floating candle. Nice and classy, yet simple enough. Keep the ideas coming...ya'll are great!!!!

Re: Minister's and Wives Retreat to be held.....
Sorry you are feeling under the weather. I was painting Sunday Schools rooms all day yesterday. Didn't get home until around midnight. I most of the windows open in my house today so I can have fresh air. It's 75 degrees and sunny - love it!!
This is a cute idea. I would tie this to the back of each chair with a pretty ribbon. They are using colored vellum and lightweight decorative papers - curling the hearts with a butter knife.

Ditch the yellow roses for red, white or pink.

Make a garland of hearts cut from fabric scraps layered and attached with iron-on adhesive. Punch small holes in the sides of the hearts and tie them together with ribbon.
These would be cute tied to the back of chairs or elsewhere.
