Wow . . .
And we won't talk about the number of Wal*Mart super centers within miles of each other. It's like Wallyworld city in some parts of the valley.

Wups, I lied . . . the Wal*Mart on Country Club has a SUBWAY, not McD's like the Wally super centers.

Franchises [churches] have had serious battles over turf ....
I know of one Pastor who had to resign his position in the district because his church found a great building and relocated but it was in someone else's sphere of influence .... the fallout resulted in his "forced" resignation
There should be a church on every block.

I know of one Southwestern church that objected to a new building within the 2 mile radius. The problem is there were rivers, and highways to cross. The driving time between the two strutures was actually 20-25 mins. The request to build was eventually denied.
On the other side, we have the low population Southern towns with multiple churchs spawned from splits in years past. These problems created the 2 mile radius question, but sometimes it is both extremes.

Considering the validity of your statement regarding Southern towns and the splits... how should we look at the legislation spawned by these splits when we consider that both (or how ever many there are) splits in these Southern towns are running nearly 500 and some of the smaller splits are running in 200s?

So the mileage from church to church varies depending on the district, am I correct on this?

So if time here is so short and eternity is facing everyone so imminently, shouldn't the goal be to reach as many people as possible as quickly as possible?
And couldn't you reach more by having more churches available? Remember that we live in a fast paced society today. People don't want to have to be bothered with traveling any distance to get to what they want. They want everything close to home - THAT's why McDonald's are popping up every couple of blocks!
So while we squabble over our "territorial rights", people die lost without the Lord. Hmmm......... Do you wonder what Jesus thinks as He watches this selfishness go on?

There is a certain presbyter in a certain city of over 350,000 souls somewhere between the North and South poles who would tell you that his city only needs one church and he is the pastor of that church. he actually tried to prevent an independent congregation from becoming the 2nd UPC in his tiny little berg!!! For shame for shame. If he can't reach them no one can!

They put churches anywhere they want them.
In the local area here one started up 3 blocks down the road from another one. When the pastor of the one that had been there for a long time he was told "to bad so sad"

And is he reaching everyone in his city? doing it single-handedly? I doubt it. I would not want to have to answer to God some day for why I refused to allow another church in my town where people could have been reached. I truly believe that God is grieved over this kind of attitude.
