I know. Back in my hometown there was a church we started to go to and really liked, but felt we could not stick around because of them putting trinitarians behind the pulpit to teach. OnenessMan and I just don't believe in that sort of thing in an apostolic church!

Re: Is Dolly Parton Pentecostal?

Someone told me this story years ago and I may not be remembering the details exactly right. There was a wedding at Christ Church of one of Dolly's relatives. It might have been her sister.

I was told that Dolly Parton's dad was there for the rehearsal. It apparently was the first time he had been at CC and after looking around asked someone what kind of church it was. When he was told Pentecostal he asked if it baptized in Jesus name. When he was told yes he said "Good!".

I don't know what Dolly's history is with Pentecost other than I have head many relatives are Pentecostal of some kind and I know that back in the 90's at some point when a friend of mine came to CC as a visiting singer / praise and worship leader when he went out to dinner after service with some of the pastoral staff they were with Naomi & Wynona (sp) Judd and Dolly Parton's sister (Stella I think) who had all been in service. He told me it had been intimidating to look out and see them in the congregation.

There was a particular occasion in 1999 when he and Trinitarian preacher Clarence McClendon made some fairly controversial things on the Oneneness/Trinitarian issue:
At the end of the day, there was a whole bunch of Oneness and Trinitarian folks, who didn't appreciate what was said. (...me being one of them)

I made a comment about it previously here.
I'll just copy it again below, for simplicity's sake:
Even back in March 1999, it was evident on this Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) broadcast, in which Bishop Noel Jones (Oneness Pentecostal) and Bishop Clarence McClendon (Trinitarian Pentecostal) discussed how to not let the doctrinal differences be a dividing wall between the two groups:

Noel Jones speaking:

and then I’m going to become so Oneness in my presentation that I eliminate the revelatory distinction between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Okay) And if I’m fighting Oneness, I’ve become so extreme in my attitude that I make three Gods, you see so, so, we go from one extreme to the other extreme, instead of coming together on the premise that I need your theology and you need my theology (C. M. "absolutely") to round [sic] the body of Christ (C. M. "absolutely"). So, let’s sit down together and let’s restate the Godhead in terms that are cohesive, comprehensible, so that all of us can grasp it. Then, after we baptize and after people receive the Holy Spirit, then let’s get up and do what Romans tells us to do to: transform people by the renewing of their minds (claps from audience).

Several years ago we sat pretty often on the same pew as Naomi Judd and her husband. She and my wife have spoken and we always did the nod and smile of course!

I have also used to see one of the members of the Sawyer Brown group there all of the time.

I have spoken to Natalie Grant before about how good her twin babies were in church. LOL!!

Most of the time I don't even recognize them unless it is someone I happen to know. A lot of the time I wil lsee someone and think they look very familiar and chances are they are a singer or celebrity.

I had no idea that two of the members of Avalon went to our church until the husband became a board member a couple of years ago. Avalon is performing at our church music conference this summer BTW.

Any celebrities at CC keep a very low profile and you almost never hear of them from the pulpit. Pastor Hardwick didn't even know Natalie Grant was a member a few years ago until he heard her on the radio and suggested to the staff that they get her to sing sometime when we had something special and they laughed and told him she goes to church here.

Well, I've heard Oneness folks speak of the trinity and they present it like tritheism
and I've heard some Trinity folks talk about Jesus praying to Himself.

It was an amazing and unifying sermon. (I was there.)
My wife enjoyed him and the church he is a part of at the Centennial Celebration in 06'.

Re: Is Dolly Parton Pentecostal?

I do believe Dolly Parton's Aunt and Uncle were Owens I think they were oneness as Bro.Walter Bailes was their pastor.
I do know that her uncle's name was Carl Owens but I can't remember her Aunt's name.
Bro.Walter Bailes would be classed as liberal but he was staunchly oneness and Jesus Name.
