I agree with the idea that there is far more POTENTIAL for falling into sin with the Net than with TV.

Good keep it up. I do see your point about the internet. That’s why my wife and I have a lot of checks and balances with our internet access on the phones and all. I do use the forum and here and there for “ entertainment “ but we generally use the internet for a tool not an entertainment source.

Brief add to the 6 year old thread..........
So if the internet or TV is used for entertainment then that is when the rocks start flying? Where this all really got silly is when preachers started boycotting certain fellowship circles over video that was strictly promoting church growth etc. I guess they probably still do. What is the rationale? If I watch this then I'll go rent an R rated movie??

Where did you come up with “ entertainment “ purposes is the problem? My point about entertainment was the internet because the internet can be very dangerous. Had nothing to do with TV.

TV is trash. Internet is even worse.
I personally know couples (with an s - multiple) who have divorced or had counseling due to affairs because of the internet.
TV is certainly a waste of time and has terrible programming.

I do agree. However internet if used properly can be a good tool for many different things where a TV has no “ tool “ purpose period. Someone that wants to stay right using the internet can very easily make theirselves accountable, with blocks, sharing info, never erasing history ect to make sure you try to never give place for your flesh to fail. Of course if it’s in someone’s heart to do something they will find away around all that. My daughter is almost 18 and has an iPhone but internet is totally blocked for her because she is at an age where I don’t see her using it as a tool. If she needs the internet she users it on a laptop that is password locked that my wife or I open for her. I have tried to teach her that the internet is very dangerous if not used correctly.

If Curtis wants to show out and start whacking stuff with a hammer...you dont blame the hammer...you blame Curtis.
By demonizing a non entity non sentient THING and turning it into our scapegoat we allow our un dealt with secret sins to fester and grow un answered while developing none of that elusive fruit of the Spirit called self control.

Correct but if you teach Curtis the hammer is only used for nails and keep the hammer in the appropriate spot, he is more likely to learn rather than setting the hammer close to Curtis for when he gets angry he can’t just grab it and smash stuff but he has to think about what he is doing and take a concise decision to get up and go to where tha hammer is to break things that not what the hammer was intended for.

Re: When is TV any good.....
The Bible also teaches us to flee certain things. It wouldn’t be wise to set things in front of to see if we have self control. Setting standard in our walk with god is self control.

What's the difference between "a TV" and a computer screen?

Considering smart Tv that can also scroll with mouse like control to view utube video etc. And computers that can log into hulu, etc to play tv shows on the monitor. I would say nothing more than most folk dont have 55 in monitor.
