How do we know a poster is a preacher?
That's the dynamic that makes things sparky and spicy and creates FABULOUS discussions that are extremely interesting.
Why is it that a person's I.Q. immediately goes off the charts when they are recognized as a preacher/minister/evangelist? I've met a few who shunned higher learning and couldn't form a coherent thought if you paid them, but by-cracky they were untouchable because they were a LICENSED MAN-A-GAWD!
I've also met a few who received so many accolades for their incredible insight and superior wisdom concerning the scriptures that they hauled off and started themselves a weird camp out in the woods. What's up with THAT???
Us lowly laymen/women AIN'T supposed to question these people????
I'm NOT bashing preachers...just suggesting that in the discussion forum atmosphere (insert better term here), we should all be valued by what we are able to contribute...the posts speak for themselves...if we happen to disagree, why must that be equated to "BASHING???"
If you are a lurker and you simply enjoy reading reading reading, You are still letting your opinion be known and contributing to the number of views on a thread...what are folks most interested in? Lurkers are valuable too!
We need us some sort of Constitution i.e. "And we hold these truths to be self-evident...that all men, women, preacher or layperson, lurker or frequent poster shall be valued equally..." etc., etc.

I must admit that I do enjoy knowing the latest news concerning certain folks in our movement. I find it fascinating to scrutinize and openly discuss the behavior of some of the uppity-ups in our movement. Some are prime examples of integrity and Christian character. And we would do well to emulate their behavior and try to carry their torch to future generations.
But there are also those zany, eccentric types who have proven time and time again how disturbingly WRONG some of these preacher-types can be. I find it interesting to study their behavior as well. To follow some of these characters is to find yourself up a proverbial creek without a paddle and headed over Niagara Falls! Look OUUUUUTTTTTT!!!
Why can't we discuss certain situations in GENERIC terms and leave actual personalities out of the conversations? The problem is that folks INSTANTLY recognize certain individuals if a poster deigns to describe behaviors that have been closely associated with some particular individual in our movement.
For instance...see if you can recognize the person I'm describing:
1. Son of big-time UPC leader, took fasting a bit too far, health issues have plagued him since, has eschewed formal Theological training, described dogs copulating at a holiday Sunday morning service....Who am I?
2. Super-ultra-con minister on the West Coast who once was married to a relative of big-time UPC leader, but now is not...strong influence in the ultra-con movement, has no appreciation for colored hosiery, hair bows, open-toed shoes, and endorses separation and isolation from fellow church members/ministers who do not necessarily agree with his point of view...Who am I?
3. Popular former evangelist/now pastor who recently endorsed TV ministry for the UPC organization...believes it would be an effective way to spread the Oneness doctrine to thousands around the world...good friend of former philandering president...Who am I?
See? You don't even have to post the names of these guys and most of you know of whom I speak.
We don't have to get mean and hateful or denigrate folks while we're discussing certain important issues. Some of these people have legitimate points, some are just HOGWASH...but that comment could easily cross the line that AFF has drawn. Sorry...please remember, I am NOT bashing, just trying to make a point.
My point is: I'm sensing a bit too much censorship here on AFF. I love it here, but sometimes the atmosphere gets a little too prickly when ministers are being discussed. Put out some guidelines and help folks adhere to them, but keeping such a tight reign in this area is getting tiresome...Let the posters voice their opinions and perhaps a valid point could be discovered...don't let 'em go crazy, but also don't be so quick to stifle a good discussion.
I respectfully defer to our good admins to take this into consideration.

Dora,
I believe things have improved a bit. Shouldn't be a problem talking about people in general, just want to make sure we aren't kicking someone when they are down.
We just need more folks posting!

Dear RGC,
I love your guts! I'm also so grateful for this forum...I actually thank God for this place of fellowship.
Please know that I meant no disrespect by my above post...just making some observations.
Perhaps some have sensed what I stated in my last two posts and are hesitant to step into the waters here, lest they be BANNED! EEEEEEKKKK!!!
Oh! And I, personally, am in the depths right now and it would hurt BADLY if someone were to KICK me.. I'm so NOT into thrashing someone's reputation or being overly critical of someone who has made serious errors of judgment...they are probably doing enough guilt on their own.
Dear Lord, please help us and give us strength and fortitude for the journey.

Dear Dora,
I love your pitts! lol!
I felt no disrespect at all and I'm with you - we are still missing the ump! There was some good discussion last week, but it seems some are hesitant!
We've only been up and running for a couple weeks - I think we're just missing Thad!
