How many preachers take the money from pocket "A" and put it in pocket "B", in other words they may place a tithe into the plate but they open the envelope and stick the money back into their wallet.
That's not good at all. Cheerful giving is what God asks for, if the man is holding back the money he is robbing the Lord.

Would You Pay Tithes to a Pastor in a Church You Did Not Attend?

When I was handling the books for a church and received food stamps and WIC coupons I always made it a point to discretely give the things back to whoever gave it. First of all it's illegal to transfer them. Secondly, it's not really an "increase" if you're on the dole.
For most of my life I attended churches where the pastor did not tithe and I never knew a thing about it. Once I got involved full time I saw how things were done and I was troubled by it. I'd say only a small percentage of pastors actually tithe or fully "participate in their district's financial plan."

My parents always paid tithes. Usually in the form of going back into the church general fund, or to Missions. I think once there was a special fund set aside for evangelists, and some of their tithes went there. I do know my father objected to paying tithes to the organization. I don't remember his reasons...exactly.

When I lived in New Orleans there was an independant church (not oneness) that was pastored by a pretty famous gospel singer. They sent out a "bill" every month in the mail to collect the tithes. I never went there but I did hear from someone that did go there that they wanted to see your W-2 before you could become a member. They ran well over 500 and always had the police out directing traffic for them. Crazy stuff!
