This area really scares me, because there was a young man that was found dead hanging in one of the trees. This is a newer park too-

Scary days we are living in!
The story reminds me of an experience we had during our 2nd term in HK.

We had to walk past a park area between our apartment where we lived to the car park where our car was parked.

One Sunday morning the kids and I were on our way to the car and suddenly there were gunshots fired and policemen came running out chasing a couple guys. I don't know what it was all about but that was the closest we ever came to a gun battle. Gotta say that my heart skipped a few beats. Luckily nobody was hurt but certainly could have been.

I've heard gun shots fired here in our area here too though. You just never know in these urban city areas.

Stockton is pretty bad and what you described happens all the time, I was forever hearing gun shots.

I was in between a drive by shooting one night driving to my apartment before I was married, the Cadillac behind me was shooting at the condos on the same street as my apartment complex--it was totally surreal. Like you said your heart skips a few beats.

The town I live in now is a former cow town, a greasy spot in the road turned bedroom community for the bay area--some how its attaching a lot of crime lately.

I've heard about the Stockton area.

This area is bad. There was a guy killed just down the street a ways at a corner gas station a few months ago.

Our home here sits on the edge of a large park. No houses behind us --- only thick treed park property. We heard gun shots out there several times over the past year and one night my daughter actually called the police to make a report.

I ..... who have never been afraid of very much .... am afraid for the first time in my life to go out for a walk in the evening. I wouldn't even walk in some of the parks here during the day alone.

It's beautiful here with many parks but I would never go alone without someone with me. Maybe with a big junk yard kind of dog if I had one. LOL.

I know what you mean, and its sad to me. It's like my children will never know the freedoms I had as a child.

I can not say that my child hood was crime free, God kept me from getting kidnapped one time. (Thats an interesting story!)

But what we didn't think twice about doing them we don't do anymore--I hate that!

I grew up in the city downtown area and roamed all over the place. I remember my mom sending me to a large department store in the downtown core when I was only about 7 years old.

It was a different world then for sure, although I do remember being approached by men a couple times. I was always allowed a lot of freedom. Some may think too much, but I grew up pretty independent and unafraid. I'm glad for that.

My grandchildren certainly don't know or have the freedom to walk the streets that I did when I was their age.
