They were doing that anyways.
For years UPC churches have been ranging the spectrum from very high standards to almost no standards.
So whats different?
The UPCI voted this year at their General Conference in Tampa, FL to allow their churches to run tv ads and to have programs. It passed by a small margin and the group that "lost" the vote have been screaming loud about their defeat.
BTW, not ALL of those who voted against it are "screaming about their defeat"
I guarantee you my pastor wouldn't vote for that. Raleigh NC has had a strong stance against TV for years. It has been mentioned over the pulpit that some among the UPC were moving away from their beliefs on standards, and that TV/Internet/etc. was becoming more of a problem.
But no complaining over the results of any such vote. We have long known than many UPC churches are much more liberal on their standards than we are. But we not only know WHAT our standards are, but WHY they are. So the way we see it, is that the world, and even other churches can do whatever they please. WE will stand for what we believe and pray for those who compromise.
For those who don't like the word "compromise" it is what it is. We don't tell all the other churches what they have to do, but we will stand on our beliefs.
When one goes back on their beliefs, giving in to the pressure, that is compromise. Others may do it, and call it whatever politically correct name they like. But we won't.

Finally! Someone who can answer the simple question: why is TV forbidden, but the internet not?

You pray for those who compromise what you believe or what they believe?

MeBNme already defined compromise: "When one goes back on their beliefs, giving in to the pressure, that is compromise." So, if "they" believe TV is OK, they would be compromisers if they joined up with the anti-TV crowd.
So, meBNme, did you once believe that TV was OK? If so, then I guess you are a compromiser. If not, have you ever changed anything you believe?
Know any Trinitarians that converted to Oneness? Compromisers!
