I also feel this way about music and books. I remember stepping into the typical christian bookstore during the 80's and 90's and absolutely hating the cheap softcover style that most books had. I've come to associate "cheap" books with christian books. Meanwhile Waldenbooks and Barnes&Nobles had REAL hardcover.
Don't even get me started on christian movies. While there have been one or two that were not bad, there have been nearly NONE that are GREAT (the Passion of the Christ being perhaps the one lone exception).
Amen to all of that...

I gravitated toward Christian music that was really original such as Steve Taylor, Daniel Amos, 77s, etc. Those bands had a big impact on me.

I always liked Russ Taff, Degarmo & Key, Petra, Whiteheart, and yes, Steve Taylor. The Christian music of the last 10-15 years has mostly been boring, unimaginative guitar strumming. Remember all the Christian compilations that show on TV? Ever notice how they are the same old songs? It is bordering on the same level as your typical Christmas compilation.

I agree. Though I have a sense that I may have a "back in my day" mentality. "This new-fangled music all sounds the same"... sort of thing.

These days I still listen to that old Christian stuff, but I also listen to a lot of secular music.

Just thought of two more we've done:
"Calling All Angels" when Eddie was doing a series on angels.
"Takin' It to the Streets" when we were doing a series on evangelism.

Re: secular music being used in church services.

I have been to a church that sang songs from U2, Lenny Kravitz, and others in their services. They were really cool and did really well when they were done right. Also a buddy of mine goes to a "Christian Church" here in town and they have a rock music service. It is packed and have great moves of God there.
