Ps 95:1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Ps 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.
Hmmmm. I wonder if Pentecostals gettin down over being filled with the Holy Ghost, delivered from dull dry boring churches, and generally having a good time over what God has made them qualifies as them making a joyful noise.

haha..my husband hates that song.A week or so ago the Sjostrands preached here and she admitted her husband did as well and mine turned to me and said....see I am not alone.I had to laugh. He told me that last night at service(I had to work) my ten year old tapped him on the arm because the choir was singing I am a Friend of God and said,Come on Dad lets get with it." That is too cute. She is a worshipper. He said he had to get up and start praising the Lord for that.

There is probably an entire underground of people who don't like the song but you feel bad saying you don't like a song that talks about being a friend of God!
Except for the good verses that Keith pointed out I always feel like I am bragging when I sing the chorus over and over. It is almost like we are insinuating to others "Hey, look at me! I am a friend of God and you are not!!"

:sshhhMy husband says its the fact that he feels God is more than a friend to him.God is a father to him.Friend is good but not enough.I never thought of it as bragging though.I won't tell him that one.He already has enough in his arsenal
to tease me with.

CC1,
Admit it! Your favorite lines, in the song, were
If you are tired of traditions
Religions done you wrong
You're feeling dry and empty
No longer have a song

OP's are, apparently, never tired of traditions themselves! I am always amused at them attacking traditions when they are so mired in them.
I think people are tired of dead, dry churches where they don't feel the presence of God and that part of the lyrics is right on the money.
