secular music being used in church services.

This morning I was reading this blog on wordpress and the guy was going on about how this guy was drawn to there church because of the song that they were playing. How do you feel about a church using secular music to draw new converts.

What genre of music was it?

I am against this.

The whole reason one should seek Jesus is because they are hungry, thirsty for something different.

A church shouldn't falsely advertise, even if the intents are "pure".

Re: secular music being used in church services.

There is some really good 'secular' stuff out there that points people to God and is indeed godly, spiritual music. It doesn't have to be on a so-called 'Christian' label to be Christian music. As long as the song points to God or leads people to God then it's good stuff. I'm all for it.

You know people don't often just walk into Church for no reason. They are usually invited or inticed somehow. The purpose is to get them to a place where the preaching of the word can have an effect on them.

And what is "false advertisement"? What does playing a secular song have to do with advertisement?

People don't often "seek Jesus"....because often they don't have a clue that it is Jesus they are seeking for...until you tell them

Re: secular music being used in church services.

Back in the day it was preached against listening to any music that wasn't gospel.

Re: secular music being used in church services.

Depends on the music itself... What defines Christian music? Christian label?

And "secular" does not mean "evil" either as some count being evil. Folk music like "the Edmond Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot is hardly going to send Christians out fornicating
