Where exactly the UPCI got tithing from?

I’ve known a man for decades who told me he gave two tithes. He was on a fixed income and wanted to give some money to the poor. So he ceased giving two tithes and dropped down to one to free up some money to give the poor. He told me he was afraid God would punish him for it but he told me he hadn’t noticed any difference after several years. He was really relieved because he really had a heart to help the poor.

What does that mean?

The tithe would continue to be agricultural.
The Jews would tithe and the Gentiles would continue to be ineligible to tithe.
The tithe would be eaten. It would continue to be food.
The tithe would continue to be only from the promised land.
The tithe would continue to be given to only the family of the tither, widows, fatherless, Levites and strangers. (Strangers were by definition nonJews, aka Gentiles, which means that Gentiles were not only not eligible to tithe, they were eligible to receive tithes).
The tithe would continue to not be money.

These are just a sample of some of the characteristics of the tithe that would remain unchanged.

Well brother. I’m a bit skeptical. Because he does have a tremendous knowledge of the Bible. And he has a very analytical mind.

And I believe he is an attorney? Isn’t that correct?

And we are talking about law here. Legalism would be a good thing, if we’re discussing law, would it not? But he, in a discussion of law, derides legalism? What is going on here?

I’m not positive, but it appears that he wants to distance himself from legalism in a matter that pertains to (Mosaic) law. The question is why. Why would he do that?

Maybe because the law is pretty black and white, particularly the law that God established. In my opinion, he is distancing himself from the law so that he can mold the law into whatever he wants it to say. Notice that instead of calling it law, he calls it a principle. Hmmm.

So, in my opinion he’s either lying at least to some extent, or he’s just inexplicably ignorant. And he seems pretty knowledgeable to me.

Having said that, I can’t see into his heart, however he has an uncanny ability to avoid scriptures that are detrimental to his chosen position. So if I had to pick either lying or ignorance, and my life depended on getting it right? I’d have to pick lying. Since my life doesn’t depend on it, I’ll say I don’t know.

I would love to debate him on the matter, but I’m doubtful that he would agree to that. If you notice, the guy who asked the question was pretty much through after reading and setting up the “debate”. He acknowledged that there was controversy. And then there were no follow up questions. It seems very sketchy to me.

Does anyone know him well enough to get him a message? Maybe we could invite him to debate on this forum. Maybe it’s worth a try.
