I wasn't being dismissive. The emoticon is reading, which is what I did, I read the page you linked to.

And I am now convinced Boyd is a "change agent" working (perhaps unwittingly) to undermine the faith. Previously I just thought he was an ex-UPCer with some views challenging the classical (Greek) view of God's nature.

Now I see he has a much larger "mission".

He noted that when he brought “the testimony of God” to Corinth, he hadn’t come “with eloquence or human wisdom”. He instead “resolved to know nothing…except Jesus Christ and him crucified’ (I Cor. 1:1-2). While this statement may be somewhat hyperbolic (did Paul really resolve to know absolutely nothing except Christ crucified?), it clearly implies that, for Paul, the entire gospel was found in the message of the cross. It implies that, when we understand what took place through the “foolishness of the cross,” we understand all that we need to know about God and about other humans. When you know the character of God revealed on the cross and what he thinks about us, as revealed on the cross, you’ve got the essence of all you need to know about anyone. - See more at: http://reknew.org/2016/06/nothing-ch....RtSTAEHe.dpuf

Do you disagree with these statements also?
YES. Boyd is reducing the gospel to an overly pietistic demonstration of divine emotion towards individuals. The statement of "Jesus Christ and him crucified" is a metonymy for the gospel of the kingdom of God. Everything revolves around the sacrificial death of Christ. But that is not, in its essence, primarily a display of God's emotion towards people. It was an act of propitiation which encompasses a range of aspects, including God's justice, his maintenance of the moral government of the universe, the atonement or covering of sin and uncleanness, the sanctification of not only people to be able to enter the presence of God but the sanctification of heaven itself to receive us into God's presence, and much more.

Reducing all of it to an overly simplistic emotionalism, as Boyd does, is a great mistake and indeed a disservice to those being taught by him.

Pietism, while necessary to a degree, becomes destructive of true spiritual growth when it becomes the be all/end all of faith.

I realize that Boyd doesn't say much about the other aspect of the cross...the justice of God and the penalty of sin but the love of God is front and center. He paints a beautiful picture of the amazing love of God through the self sacrificing death of Christ that overshadows the wrathful, angry God that is used by some to depict God. Mercy rejoices over judgment.

Boyd preaches relationship with God not pietism for pietisms sake.

He wrote an entire book about us, claiming he had once been one of us, then 'saw the light'. His book recites all the standard arguments, so it actually looks like he just discovered he couldn't make money being on the outside of the mainstream, at least until he got some name recognition, so he wrote a book about how we are a cult, and the trinity (and standard Arminian Baptist soteriology) is correct, got some traction, then started going off into 'other' areas. Almost like he was working a marketing strategy...

Visit his website, you'll get all the quotes you need. I've been quoting his website already. Not sure what you are asking?

Do your own research, stop being lazy and expect everything to be given to you, Sheesh, this is what being a liberal is about, give it to me, since I am too lazy to look it up.
