Flu hospitalization rate (whether you need a regular bed or ICU bed) from estimated data: 810,000 / 45,000,000 (symptomatic) = 1.8%
From here:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html
Hospitalization rate for COVID:
I can't find only symptomatic cases. I can't find just the hospitalizations. However from looking at this data
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ in the USA, I can come up with some number:
892,800 (total cases, includes some no symptomatic) / 15,042 (Serious/Critical cases, exclude some hosp not serious) = 1.6% (USA)
In Spain, the number is 3.6%.
So the hospitalization rate could be similar to the flu at the end, but it seems that it may be a little bit more. Add to that the fact that it is coming quick in one-two months, vs the flu which is a whole year number, distributed in two seasons.
